Thompson’s WaterSeal Wood Stain is easy to use on small outdoor wood projects such as chairs, picnic tables, planters, mailboxes, benches and more. It sprays evenly and protects projects from water, fading and UV damage. For a semitransparent look that lets the natural wood show through, spray a light coat or wipe away excess with a rag. Additional coats can be applied for more coverage. The stain dries to the touch in one hour and fully dries in about 48 hours. The finish is available in Traditional Brown, Cedar, Golden Pine and Redwood hues, and each aerosol can covers about 25 sq. ft. of surface area. “The Thompson’s WaterSeal Wood Stain has good color, great covering and was easy to spray. Unlike other spray products that spit and sputter, this went on evenly and smoothly.”

August (Gus) Bracewell, Westwego, LA

“It quickly dried to touch, had low odor and very little sag when applied too heavy. My favorite feature is the superb end grain coverage as it doesn’t turn end grain darker like other stains.”

I tested this Thompson product and and found a different situation. In all fairness, I did use the stain on a previously stain section of cedar fence. The section is approx 42 sqft. I brushed the fence down to remove any scaling, dirt etc. The fence drew in the stain, so it was dry. I had to back brush the spray and it took 5 1/2 of the six cans to cover just that 42 sqft section.
I think the spray can is good for small projects but can get expensive quickly. For the six cans sent, at less than $8.00 each, I can buy a gallon of Penafin, Super Deck or Cabots stain and cover more square footage for less money
I found the product to be fair and really don't know the actual long term performance for at least another year.

It's been almost a year since I applied mine. I applied it to the presssure treated pine handicapp ramp built and used by my wife. I cleaned off the boards with Tilex before applying this stain. It went on very well, excellent coverage and to this day after all the weather and my frequent washing off bird refuse, it looks very much like the pix I took the day of application. This is Pensacola, FL where we have some serious storms, intense sun and this stain is in full sun all day. Just an update.
