The ECHO CS-400 Chain Saw provides plenty of cutting power with its 40.2cc Power Boost Vortex engine. The tool’s computerized i-30 starting system reduces starting effort by 30-percent, and the G-Force Engine Air Pre-Cleaner prolongs engine life by spinning out dirt before it reaches the filter. Other features include a removable bumper spike, an adjustable automatic oiler, a side-access chain tensioner, a rear-access automotive-style air filter and a dual-post chain brake handle. Kelly Knight, Ridgeway, VA

“I tested the ECHO CS-400 against three other brand-name chain saws and it out-performed all of them in every test. It is easy to handle, it doesn’t lose much power under a load and it’s fuel-efficient.”

Dallas Durre, Flora, IL

“It’s the easiest chain saw to start that I have ever used, and the power is quite impressive.”

I am looking to buy a decent chain saw after owning severa pieces of crap (Pouland, Homelight). I do not want to spend much over $300.00. Should I purchase this echo I read all good about or go for a used Sthil or Husky? What is the best bar lenght and engine size for felling trees and cutting cord wood?

I will be receiving this saw for Christmas so have no experience with it yet. That said, why the Echo CS-400? 1) I knew it was a good saw before researching it but then I noticed - on Echo's website! - that the Handyman Club specifically endorses this model. 2) I am fortunate to have an Echo dealer 2 blocks away in the small CA town in which I live. Having folks I know and trust nearby to handle any warranty issues is important. I'll write again after the holidays when I've completed a bunch of tree trimming planned for mid-January and report on its performance. Btw, I love this club.

Finished most of the trimming and man, is this saw a beast. It starts on 2 pulls and cuts so well it kinda scares me. What a tool, worth every penny. I freakin' love this thing.
