The Ridgid Stor-N-Go Cleaning Station ($99 at The Home Depot) is a wall-mounted portable vacuum which has the unusual (and enviable) distinction of being both specialized and versatile. Although its most obvious use is in a garage, the vacuum is equally well-suited for a laundry room, basement or woodshop. Despite its relatively small size (it has a 5-gallon tank) and light weight, the machine’s 5-peak-hp motor provides the suction of larger units yet is surprisingly quiet. The switch, hose connections and tool storage (for wands and nozzles) are easy to access and use. The two hoses – a 7-ft. expanding hose and a conventional 14-ft. hose – can be hooked together to reach 21 ft., and a locking mechanism prevents the hose from disconnecting.
