Club member Kenneth Denn of Kennewick, Washington, revamped his backyard pond from a small, shallow goldfish bowl to a flourishing water feature — but not before a resident heron stopped by for a snack. His new pond is not only larger, but it also features a three-tier waterfall and a safe haven for his fish made with flagstones and cinder blocks. Here’s how the project came together:

Pond Photo 1   Kenneth enlisted the help of his son to dig out a larger area for the new pond.
   
Pond Photo 2   Before inserting the liner, Kenneth made sure all wall blocks and waterfall stones fit into place.
   
Pond Photo 3   Next, Kenneth installed the pond liner and waterfall pump.
   
 Pond Photo 4  With the complicated steps complete, Kenneth finished off his pond project by adding a few decorative details such as the frog figurine and aquatic plants.
