I just picked up a few tools at a garage sale.

a router and a small mitre saw ... both made by a company called GMC (no not the car company)... I have used both and they work great... didn't know if anyone else owns tools by this company... who sold them?????

General Machine Company. I have one of their variable speed Random orbital sanders. Decent little sander, I think I got it from Rockler on sale for about $30. I'm on routerforums.com also and several members over there have table saws and other equipment from them. Seems like they are mostly marketed in Europe and Austrailia, some to South Africa also. It's a UK company.

John - The problem with experience is I usually get it immediately after I need it.

Lowes' at one time carried this brand, i have a wet saw I bought on clearance and have used it multiple times with no complaints. They are considered DIY grade, nothing fancy, not meant for a heavy workload, but we had very few returns with them and made alot of guys happy at Fathers' Day and Christmas as last minute gifts.

Gator, at my age I need all the help I can get, wherever I can get it

This thread got me to thinking though. I've been focused on getting a stand built for that Oscillating Spindle sander I got at Xmas that I hadn't really looked at the sander itself much. Occurred to me that it is the same color scheme as my GMC ROS so I checked and warranty is handle by HTC products. No where in the literature is GMC referred to though, 909.

GMC tools are made in Australia or New Zealand.  When they first showed up at Lowes, they weren't given very good reviews.  But from the comments of other members, they must be ok.

For tools I don't expect to use often or put to heavy continuous use, I'd have no beef buying GMC again, or a HF model, for tools I use more often I try to get the best I can afford at the time.

AFS you are correct, they weren't well received at Lowes', especially by those who wanted tools that last by folks like us who do more than the odd w/e project with them.  One item that did go over big was the GMC tool box w/ pull out drawers full of different drill bits and other hand tools.  For someone just wanting a tool box to get them started off, it was one of our biggest sellers at the time.
