I would advise going through the download process and extraction process.
There is NO ACTUAL install process, other than one has to make a folder for it, perhaps in the "
Program Files" area.
Also since there is no install program, one must make a shortcut to the exe file that's extracted, you remember that, right click on the exe file and select make a shortcut, then drag that to the desktop, right?
In it's use, advice can be given as to where to store images and how to organize them. Your method of using a lower case "s" is a good tip.
Personally I make a sub folder called originals and copy the images to that and then edit the ones in the first folder.
The resizing is a "good down and dirty" way to get images "smaller" in both physical and file size. I recommend explaining that the program should be set to "Pixels" when resizing. Reason being web stuff is always based on pixels. Also select "Smooth". And I recommend 800 by 600 size.
Also in the saving of the file, there is a button at the bottom of the save window called "More", with that one need only adjust the JPG quality once and the program will remember it. I recommend 50%. This is a good quality for web use and further reduces file size.
A test file I worked with starting out as 1024 wide by 768 high with a file size of 207 kb was reduced to 800 wide by 600 high with a file size of only 39.3 K !!!
There are other possibilities with this basic photo editing program like cropping, sharpening, changing the DPI, some other photo tricks and most importantly under the edit button, an "undo" button!
The extra features need not be discussed for now, we are only interested in the idea of making an image smaller in both pixel size and file size.I'm sure it's easy enough to learn for most, if not all, of the guys that need a basic program to re-size images to share on the forum.
Like I said, I could do the thing up as a how-to text type posting, but a video would be much more beneficial and you are the one to do it. If you would like me to check it out before you announce it, maybe offer constructive criticism, I'm at your disposal.
