Unfortunately, turning it off yourself only works until someone else turns it back on...I was putting new lighting in a warehouse, had the circuit breaker turned off and tagged. Went to lunch, and never thought about checking the breaker when I got back. Learned my lesson well, after getting knocked off a 9 foot ladder!

Raymond: Sorry but Home Depot does not carry Fluke. We are exclusive to Klein. (There may be some Greenlee left in some stores.) I used to use a Fluke non-contact voltage tester but they break very easily and it is always on. Now I use one from Greenlee. It's rugged enough not to break when you have fumble fingers like mine. (I mostly drop things from ladders.) It also has an on/off switch. Just always make sure you do a Live-dead-live test with them so you know they are working. Also: never trust a breaker being off without testing. I've had bad breakers track voltage through them after a hard hit. And you never know if that old Federal or Zinsco breaker is really off without testing.

Btw Gerry: There are lockouts that fit over residential breakers. I have them and ones that fit light switches and male ends of electrical cords. I'll get the name and model after work today.

Still waiting for that lockout name/brand, LOL, no hurry...
Duct tape is pretty good as with a Sharpie you can write on it a clever saying....

"Turn this on and if it don't kill me, I'll kill you."
or
"Turn this on and kill me and I'll haunt you!"

Found 'em. They are made by Panduit.
They can be found at www.panduit.com

The breaker lockout is model PSL-CB, light switch is PSL-WS, and the Cord lockout is PSL-P.
I have the contractor kit but also got the valve lockout as well. Don't ask me how much since they were a gift .

I have used the switch lockout on small breakers since the trip handles can be small on the house panel. You can only tighten the screw enough to get the lock to stay on. Too tight and they break the switch. They have a better model of the cord lockout which will cover any male end to keep people from using a tool that needs repair. Someday, I'll get that one. Can you believe they have lockouts for network jacks? I guess, after looking the site over again, you could find a lockout for anything....(thinking)....except someones mouth.

Finally I remembered to check on those SeaBeece...
Locally the PSL-WS is $12.11 each
I WILL be getting a few of them for the church as soon as I have to go up in the attic again and someone left the lights on up there and burned out all the access lights.
