with the exception of those numerous times I wasn't.      Please bring me clamps.  Lots of clamps.  Bar clamps, quick grip clamps, pipe clamps, corner clamps, whatever clamps you have, I can use.

I don't know about the rest of you woodworkers, but it seems no matter how many clamps I have in the shop, either the ones I need are already in use, a tad too short, or way too long.  I thought I had a fair selection, but everytime I get on a new project, there is one I need that I don't have, or don't have enough of them.

I agree - there is one thing you can NEVER have enough of - and that is clamps.

    ANY and ALL types!

Now here is the question - do you buy fewer - high quality  OR  many lesser quality?

Personally I'd like to have high quality clamps, but I know on my budget having enough of them would not be a reality right now, so I'd rather have more lower quality and have enough to do the jobs I do with less down time waiting on glue to dry so I can re-use the ones I have.

I got a wide range of them.
4' bar clamps, 6' Rockler clamps, the various grip clamps we get at HD or Lowe's or Harbor...
Even those tiny pincher clamps are good for keeping the bag of powered joint compound closed.

A guy can never have too many clamps.  Often a guy doesn't the right kind of enough of them.

They also come in handy for skinning fish.

I'm choosing curtain number two.  I was going to have it mounted but she who must be obeyed wanted to eat it.  And she did not enjoy all the itty-bitty bones in the meat.

Once I pulled that thing outta the water (took several minutes) I knew for sure I was NOT going to get into an inner tube again to fish and cool off during the summer months.

I had NO IDEA the village stocked those thing in the tributary.

This is what I wanted to attach...next time I'll use thumbnails.

I go for a mixture of lots of cheap clamps and a few expensive clamps. I prefer the better quality clamps, but can't afford all that I need, so I buy a couple now and then when I have extra cash. I buy lots of cheap clamps to fill in when I run out of good clamps, just use twice as many. Seems to be working so far. Garage sale season is here again, I always check them for tools I want but can't afford new. I have bought most of my good quality clamps at garage sales and auctions, for a fraction of new price.

    JDeere is correct.

During each of our day(s) individually we find ourselves in need of clamps or to clamp proejects (ours, friend, neighbor, family member) togehter.  Very little matters when we get to the point joing material adn then learning we don't have enough of them.  Like you - I sometimes find or create a suitable alternate which does not lend itself to the same end result.

Humor aside, I have several dozen clamps. Some are 5 or 6' feet long, some are 4' long, many can be operated by hand (such as those found in HD, HF, Lowe's, Rockler, etc.) and others are the cheap basic pincher style.

A man can never have too many clamps!  Each of of us have worked on projects over the years that needed more than what we had on hand or had available.

Even lthough I have several clamps that are used maybe/possibly two or three times a year - I know I have them available.  All I might need to do is knock off the dust and shop debris and they're there for my use.

I have 3 pipe clamps, the real expensive ones with cam locks on the movable end. Bought 2 at an auction sale and 1 at a garage sale, none had been used - 2 of the boxes hadn't even been opened - got them all for less than the cost of 1 at a store. I got them when I was building some bookcases that were 8' long. The pipe are about 8'7" to allow the clamps to fit over a full sheet of plywood. When the project was done, the clamps just sat unused. Who needs 8' clamps very often? I wanted more clamps, but couldn't afford the ones I wanted, so looked for a cheap alternative. I bought a few lengths (21'/piece of pipe) of 3/4" black pipe and cut 3 of every length I wanted. I now have the pipes for 1', 2', 3', 4', 6' and 8' pipe clamps (length of work that the clamps will fit over). I find that I use my pipe clamps a lot now.

I am in the process of cleaning up a pair of 4' long antique bar clamps. They work great, just are so dirty that they mark the wood if they touch it. I have used them, but had to place scraps between the pads and work and under the bar to keep the clamps from touching. They are some of the nicest clamps I have ever used.

Went to visit friends in Indy.  Went to my favorite home store, Menards.  Just happened that they had a special on 2" Irwin Quick clamp for $1.99.  I bought 1 dozen.  My friend bought all the rest (20).  Now I wish I had bought more for that price!

Don't mean to hijack but must add here -- this months American Woodworker has the neatest and most simple setup for for using pipe clamps -- set it up for your longest need and you can still use it for the shortest. It is a near vertical setup so you can reach across your whole glue up. I'm going to make one when I figure a place for it. I don't often get enthused anymore but this thing is the answer to many glue up problems. I may even buy some clamps that don't scar up the pipe.
