We're kinda proud of them, but we're always open to improvements. That's where you come in. Please send us your feedback — as well as requests for videos you'd like us to produce. Thanks. |

Gary, no offense intended, but I think Handy's sense of priorities is a bit skewed. If basic functions of the forums like "Search" worked, I might have time to watch the videos and give some feedback. JMO. ratherbefishin'......long beach, ms............

I agree too. I'd like to see some forum improvements. A heads-up on new PMs would be nice. So would WYSIWYG and spell checking when making a post as well as a bunch of previously available features THAT WORK and have been requested by many long ago. Last post in "updates" is Oct 11 by zipper - that is unsatisfactory! The movies are a nice feature but, the forums need some serious, long awaited, attention. BTW, if you havn't checked yet, Gary, you have a PM from me. "The BikeBuilder" http://home.new.rr.com/bikebuilder/ |

I hear you about the basic functions with the site. They frustrate me, and all I can do is what you do with your feedback. In the meantime, I go with what I've got and will not let the shortcomings of the site distract me (usually) from the greater good we have here, that of members helping members. The videos are one way (that I can control) of helping members . |

Gary L., Don't get me wrong here about your videos. I'm sure they would be helpful to some. They are limited to what you see and does not lend to discussions and options. I watched your video on coil electrical cords and I think I would have gained as much knowledge reading about it in HANDY. Which way is subjective to be cost effective; videos vs articles which can be set aside and refered to more easly later. And reach more subscribers to HANDY who may past that issue(s) on to others. That's why many of us keep and store HANDY and other's that we enjoy gaining new insite into the woodworking/handyman life many of us lead to stay happy. Others garden, hunt and golf...etc. You did ask for opinions....? ZIP San Antonio, Texas...[78212 for Map Users]...IF YOU CAN'T FIGHT, DON'T GROWL. |

Thanks, Zipper. We are trying to overlap more with the magazine, and this would be good for that. Video is one of the things that separates Web site from magazine, and shortness is the name of the game with Web videos. About three minutes, I've been told, is what people sit still for. So there are limits to what you can cover. Many of ours are longer, but we're learning that the ones people click to are the shorters ones. It's different, and some people like that a picture says a 1,000 words. Others like to have the words in hand to refer to. But thanks again for your opinion. |

Gary L said: "Many of ours are longer, but we're learning that the ones people click to are the shorter ones." Gary, its possible the short ones are simply about more popular subjects. The length may have nothing to do with it. As far as the ones that are viewed more often, perhaps an on-going series might be in-order on those or similar subjects. I downloaded a series of videos from another website, don't recall where. Anyway, I refer to them whenever I'm going to be doing some turning as a refresher on the techniques. I like the videos. I Re-hab houses for a living and need to know about a lot of different things. It never fails: Every new house presents an opportunity to learn something new. It's nice to have basic knowledge of something when I run into it and I can get some of that knowledge from the videos. An easy way to search the site for more-in depth info would be nice. Admittedly, I have not searched since the site was modified. That's because I gave up on the searches and found a better place to get info. I'll do a search now and see if it's any better......... |

We're spread thin here but would like to do more videos, perhaps a series on this and that. Takes time to build up the staff and resources. The videos are found in the From Handy section (see top navigation bar). One of my concerns is that they are hard to find. DCRANE, welcome and thanks. Check out the New Members section of the forum. |

EDIT: The message I posted (would have been) deleted because Gary posted 2 minutes before I did. So, this is the best I can do without leaving it blank. -we're kinda playing "chase the rabbit" "The BikeBuilder" http://home.new.rr.com/bikebuilder/ |

Just got done watching the video on different glues and altho it was informational I don't think that everything was covered. It left me with a question about the gorilla glue. The instructions I have on my bottle tell me to spread the glue on one surface and wet the other surface then join them. The video did not cover anything about the wetting of the other surface. So does this mean that the glue can be used without wetting the other surface and if so will it be just as strong or not? I feel that this is an important thing not to omit from the video as it could result in unwanted results. Other than that they were informational. Harold/jbily/(Oscoda,Mi.) Hey; How about an answer here. I think it's a legit question. And I would think that after 2 months you could come up with some sort of an answer. Lets see; bob, bompa, bikebuilder and afs got a reply in 6 days, zipper got an answer in 1 day, bikebuilder[again] and dcrane within 3 more days. Just curious here, does anyone really know anything about the products in the videos or are they just there to take up space and make things look good? HHAHN, obviously I have not check this for a while. I'm splitting duties once again. My apologies. Yes, that was an omission on the video's part. My understanding is water strengthens the bond, so you are right, it would not be as strong. On the directions of the bottle I'm holding, it says to dampen one surface with water. For dense hardwoods, lightly dampen both surfaces prior to gluing. Hope this helps. Also, HHAHN, the avatar .... |

You have videos? I don't even visit the rest of the site, figure it's as mucked up as the forum.

Gary, That video on setting a commode in 1 hour sure lacked a bunch of do's and don'ts. If that was designed for the home owner it should have started with the take-out and the various problems that could be encountered. Was that your film crew and director? They did show how well the soda straws worked. Over all I'd give it a D- ZIP San Antonio, Texas...[78212 for Map Users]... OPPS, MY BAD...YOUR FAULT. |

Zip, thanks for the D-. High marks coming from you. The overall challenge with these videos is that viewer feedback indicates that people lose interest in videos that last longer than 3-5 minutes. We had dos and don'ts and footage to last 15 minutes, which would have included much of the stuff you wanted (heck, you might have even given it a D!). So we went a little long to try to give people an overview. |
