Pete, I may be wrong, but I don't think so in thinking Scooter may have  put a hint of sarcasm in his answer.

I don't like their color choice here, but having the tabs has speeded up my hitting the other clubs for entering the contests.

They also added another Tracking Cookie to their list! I've blocked it too!
Web sites run so much faster when you keep all the Tracking Cookies blocked, insures your privacy also!

I use DNT+ it's a do not track addon to Firefox that blocks the tracking cookies. I have had it running for a few months now and it has blocked tracking cookies over 22,000 times. This site has 3 tracking cookies, Facebook connect, Twitter bridge and Google Analytics.

I don't have Firefox because it is incompatible with other websites I use for county projects and data.
So, what to do to block the cookie tracker?
And does this apply to DONUTS?

Things do seem to be settling down, after a rocky start. There are some improvements. I think that once we adjust to the changes, we'll be OK with everything. To give credit where credit is due, I believe everything went much better than changes have been in the past on the handyman site. I still don't see any spellcheck provision.

    Hi Wood

DNT+ is missing one. Google AdSense is also on here.
Sometimes it shows up as PageAd2.

    I use Ghostery!

Interesting Gary. I tried Ghostery on the Fishing club, it blocked 7 items, but DNT+ blocked 12.

Although as you said, Ghostery blocked one more item on this page than DNT+

ran them side by side and for the most part DNT+ blocked more than Ghostery. Too bad the both don't work together. What one misses the other catches.

    Hi Wood

Ghostery is unique to each browser and setting are different for each.

Here are the Tracking Cookies used by HCOA: AddThis, DoubleClick, Facebook Connect, Google AdSense, Google Analytics, Quantcast, Twitter Badge & Twitter Button.
Plus your log-in cookies, which have numerous entries inside of each of them.

There are several types of cookies that are not tracking cookies, and many blocking programs block all of them.
I actually don't block Cookies using the Cookies column, as that's where your log-in info is stored. I only block those types that are considered 3pes.
These types of cookies are: Advertising, Analytics, Privacy, Trackers and Widgets.
Under the 3pes types, I do not block widgets or form fill data.

Ghostery, like DNT+ can block everything. Ghostery only shows you the cookie name, DNT+ lists all the inside the cookie names as separate cookies.
I don't block Flash, Silverlight, Java, Images, Iframes or Object Tags, so those don't appear in my list either.

Put simply, if it's the type of cookie that can be read and provide information to SPAMMERS, it's blocked,
if it's the type of cookie that is sold for a profit, it's blocked,
if it's a cookie to my benefit, it's not blocked.

I use different e-mail addresses for the various web sites I visit, this way, before Ghostery or other alerting programs, I knew exactly WHO was selling my private information.
Sometimes the contents of the SPAM are a clue, exactly to what private and personal information a web site is selling about you!

In some cases you can sue them for selling your private information, especially if they illegally make public claims to the contrary.

NAMG clubs are supposedly Private, Membership Only, clubs! But if you read their TOC & TOS, it is not classified as such. It's public and all information here is public! Including your private information.

    Hi Wood

You said they don't work side by side together.

I've only tried DNT+ on Firefox and it's running side by side with Ghostery on my other computer just fine.
But perhaps with both of them running is why DNT+ misses so much, as Ghostery already blocked it, hi hi......

Because I'm forgetful, before posting this, I jumped over to my other computer and connected to the Garden Club.
On the opening page, Ghostery Blocked; Double Click and Google Analytics. DNT+ said CLEAR SKIES. Both of those are IN the DNT+ listings as being blocked.

If I get time, I'll uninstall both programs and install them in reverse order with DNT+ first and Ghostery second, to see if that makes a difference.

I think the reason I sided with Ghostery is that it catches cookies that are not on their watch list, I get a short pop-up of the names of the trackers blocked, and I get no ads from them.
Also, Ghostery worked with the primary browsers I normally use each day. My current browser of choice is Chromium, the engine Google Chrome is built on. I also use Google Chrome as second choice. It actually depends upon what I'm doing as to which browser I use. If I need to copy specific sections of History Files daily, I make sure and use Firefox for accessing those web sites, because they have it set up where one click does the job that all the others take as many clicks as web site features you hit.

I remember back when I first tried DNT+, I almost didn't because their web site claimed it only worked on PC's and Mac's and I run Linux. It works just fine in Linux too!

    WW,

Based on your recommendation and that of others I decided to try the "Do Not Track" program.  In fairness to others I feel obligated to report the result.

Now, I don't like the idea of tracking cookies any more than the next guy, but I am going to live with them rather than use DNT.  I accessed the link and ran the program on my wife's laptop.  Immediately after that I tried to have Norton Anti-Virus run a scan.  That is something I almost always do when closing my browser (I.E.) and also after installing a new program.  RESULT -- Norton Anti-Virus had somehow been disabled by DNT.  I simply couldn't start a scan.  I did three things and the situation has been corrected.  I removed the DNT program (DNT asked for feedback as to why. I appreciate that.); I looked at the Norton site for advice; and I shut the computer down and did a cold boot.  Everything seems OK now.  No permanent harm done.  Norton OK and reports no problems.  Whew!

Gee Bob, that's strange. I don't run Norton so can't verify that. I would do the same as you did.

I was surprised too, when I logged on, to see a different web site, but I was more shocked that I didn't have to change my user name. LOL
