All is well in Belleville, just east of St. Louis. The only damage we had was a gutter was knocked loose.

    Anyone heard from Grandpa Dave?
Dewey, Hands up and OK in West Central Indiana. Sorry, I'm baby-sitting my grandson plus I've tried three times to make this post today and each time, I get HCOA forum message"A Critical Error Has Occurred" and logs me out!  grrrrr I trust you too are OK and averted the brunt of the storms?

Yesterday was a very tragic day for many families in mid-southeastern Indiana and certainly a sad for me as well when I heard and saw the devastation to Henryville and Marysville.

My paternal great-great grandparents along with two other families traveled down the Ohio River from Pennsylvania and settled and were early founders of Marysville. They and thier families along with my great grandparents and families, my grandfather, several great aunts and uncles and other family memebers are buried in the 3 pioneer families cemetary just short distance from the town.

When I saw and heard of the damage to the old school house and church there I was greatly saddened. Both were shown on Indy channel 6 news last night. I have many fond memories of family reunion gatherings in the church and school yard. My great aunt and uncle lived right next door to both buildings.

My great aunt was an awesome lady. She was the town's beautician, part-time switch board operator and had worked in the only restaurant in the small community. She was the go to person for Marysville happenings!  By small, in it's heydey probably only had 300 residents or so excluding the furkids of course (my aunt had several cats and dogs---another of her vices...)

The last family reuion there was in the early 1990's. I remember it well. My dad (an only child) had not been for a few years asked my two brothers and I (and our families) if we would go with him. We did and I'm glad we did so. We had a great time...a couple of years later dad passed away very unexpectedly.

A few years later my great aunt passed away, the last of our family in Marysville which had our family presence since the early 1800's

I'm sorry to admit, it has probably been 15 years since I was last there and to the cemetary. I took my daughter while she was still in college there to show and tell her about our family lineage and small link to Indiana history.

My prayers go out to all who suffered property as well as personal loss. I felt a small piece of me die too when I saw the destruction and heard that Henryville and Marysville both were direct hits of a suspected F-4 tornado.

Thanks for your specific concern and overall concern for the forum family! Unfortunately, tis again the season for those of us who live in this region.

Thanks for checking in Grandpa Dave, I really enjoyed although saddened by your above post. Being a genealogist of sorts, I can well appreciate your sentimental feelings. I'm glad you survived the weather Mother Nature threw our way. We had a few mobile homes suffer damage in Wadesville, about 20 mins from here, as well as some damage to a church in Evansville, and straight line winds caused several poles to topple snapping wires but Vectren worked feverishly to restor power once the major storm cells passed.
I enjoy watching Mother Nature at her most fierce moments, I find it fascinating, but that is not to say I enjoy seeing the loss of property and life left in it's wake. I guess you could liken it to a train wreck, you just can't look away. My heart goes out to all those in need after yesterdays disasters. Thanks to everyone who checked in thus far.

I do know Steve Miller, Wolfy1, EZGoing and a few others who used to be regulars on the forums are ok. IF you know of others who may not post regularly and know they are ok, please add them to the list if they were in the danger zones. If you have contact info, please check up on our other forum family members.

Gregg, Nothing that I have heard. Crothersville is a little west and about 45 minutes (drive) north of the two towns I mentioned. I live ~2-1/2-3 hours from the area.

Seems the severe storms and tornados that hit Indiana started a bit west of Louisville, Ky and cut across the south/southeastern portion of the state along the Ohio River. I-65 was closed for several hours in the southern part of the state due to debris and power lines from the storms.

You might check out WXIN-channel 59 (FOX), WRTV-channel 6 (ABC) or WTHR-channel 13 (NBC) websites.  All carried detail reports of the storms and most heavily affected areas. Also could check INDYSTAR.com for more detailed information.

Hope everyone from your family was unaffected.

Funny side though, years ago when we would be in that area and folks would ask "where ya'll from", when we would tell them Crawfordsville, folks would say "oh, Crothersville!"  Then we would have to explain the difference.  Long before I-65 was completed, we used to travel through Crothersville on our way further south.

    Thank you Dave,

For various reasons dad and I lost track of the family and haven't heard from them in decades.

It's really good to hear so many folks are well.  The news is totally disheartening.  My prayers for those who suffered anything.  And, my thankfulness for all who did well.
