Hi everyone!  I accquired this old commercial washing machine that went up in smoke one day...Good thing I happened to go out and check it or it probably would have burned my home down.

I thought maybe a belt broke or something, but when I took the front off, there was no belt to be found.  When the machine was brought home, I made sure it was nice and level; but when you opened the lid the tub was leaning towards one side.  That's what made me think a belt broke.  I couldn't figure out why the tub was always leaning.  It seemed to work pretty good until it went up in smoke.  I tried to find out information from the manufacturer but apparently this machine was "hot" as the serial number had been removed from the lid.  Hummm!!  I should have kept the old machine I had...at least it worked.  But, this one was bigger, so I took it.  It was free.  It was left behind at the home my daughter bought and she didn't need it so she gave it to me.

It's an Amana Commercial Quality Washer....Superb Capacity Plus...3 speed, 12 cycles....sounds impressive!!!  It's not too ancient, cause it still has the "Energy Efficient" sticker on it..don't think it's been too many years since they started putting those on appliances..Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on what went wrong and can it be fixed?  I don't see anything broken inside...the big springs all seem to be in place so I can't figure out why the tub leans.  Or why it went up in smoke.  The tub was full of water when it started smoking.  I had to pull the clothes out and wring them by hand so it died during the wash cycle or just going into the spin cycle...

Hi Scooter:  I found this model # on the motor inside so I hope it is the right one.  The plate with the serial # has been removed.  The # I found is:  C68PXGEA-4437.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Scooter....Okay???  I "clicked below" and it looks like maybe item 21 is the problem..at least it sounds like it might be.  I'll have to get someone over here with more muscle than I have to turn the thing over so we can see into it better to see if the spin belt is broken.  I can't get down far enough to check it out myself.  But that diagram you gave me really helps.  I hope that's the part that is causing the problem cause it's in stock and affordable.  If not, at least now I know what each part is and can go from there....Thanks a million!

Scooter: What's this mean "Did they get the DIVING LADY back up yet?"

I don't see any tags on the cabinet except the spot where one was removed.  I think because this is a commercial washer, someone at some point in time might have stolen it?  And removed the serial no. to prevent it from being tracked down...don't know, just speculating on that one.

Hi OM, how the heck ya doing?  Haven't got to the kitchen floor yet..surprised you rememberd all that.  Everytime i step foot in that kitchen I think about my floors.  I want them so bad!  But, everytime Lumber Liquidators has the one I want on sale my money is dedicated to something else that month.  But soon I hope!  I have a million projects and have a hard time concentrating on completing one so I can move to the next.  But, yeah, pat on the back the bathroom is "Done"!!!

I have completely finished the bathroom tho.  Just put the new tiles down a couple weeks ago.  Had to resort to peel and stick in the bath instead of the laminate wood I wanted.  They put the stupid AC vent right in front of the door and I couldn't put in wood cause the door wouldn't shut then.  Or, of course, I would have had to cut the bottom of the door or raise it up and then that would mean redoing all the door framing for the door handle and I just wasn't up to doing all that again considering I had already replaced all the moulding and trim.  I think the peel and stick will work better since it is moisture proof and the laminate wood wasn't.  It's finally all done anyway.  Everything in the bath is completely new now.  Just need to buy a few deco things to put on the walls.

I did want to turn the bathtub that was taken out into a pond, but can't figure out how to plug up the hole.  Have checked out the big box stores for pvc plugs to fit the drain hole but nobody has anything the right size.  So, I decided to make a planter out of it instead of a pond...started making a frame yesterday to raise it up off the ground so I don't have to bend over to reach it.  Was using old left over wood from enclosing my carport, but need to go to Lowes and pick up a couple more 2x4's to finish it off.  It's almost time to plant before it gets scorching hot.  Tried planting tomatoes during the summer and they just burned up so I'll try them again now for picking by May or June to see how they do since we're gettting into the high 70's and low 80's already.

    Later...

Okay, I still have this monster sitting on my porch. Has anyone ever dismantled one of these? I've tried to find salvage companies to come get it but can't find anyone so I want to dismantle it and throw it in the trash. My neighbor is moving and doesn't need her set anymore so I'm buying it for $300. Almost brand new...great price!

How hard is it to take these apart? Why are they so darn heavy? I can hardly move this one across the floor. It is a big commercial washer, but, man this thing is heavy!!

Personally I think that would be a bad decision to take it apart. then you have a bunch of large parts to get rid of.

But, a note to Scooter may help you decide and / or what to do.

Do you have Cheapcycle and or Freecycle in your area? On our Cheapcycle webpage we always have people offering to pick up old appliances for free, they sell them for scrap value, but they do all the lifting and transporting.

Hi Scooter...great suggestion. I called and they only recycle freezers and frigs but she did give me some ideas on places to call to find out who might recycle. Otherwise, its the saws all for this one...lol. We do know of a salvage place that took my other washer but you have to take it over yourself and we can't move this one...it's too heavy!
