hi all , we moved into our new place about a month ago and with all the rain we have been getting i been seeing that the lawn is always soggy, all around the house , have a few trees about 20' around them is semi dry , but everywhere else seams to always stay wet , didnt see this when we looked at the place in the winter time with a few feet of snow on the ground, im looking for suggestion on how i can dry up the water faster then waiting for the sun to dry it up , and keep the cost down. have a drain on both sides of thepropety , dont know if they are to blame for this either .

Details, we need details, is there a slight slope, or is there a small dip in the lawn, or a hidden spring, or any number of possibilities. Maybe you could install an underground drainage pipe to drain your yard. |

I agree with installing "Drain Field Tile" around the house and out to one or both of these drains on each side of your property. Rent a Ditch Witch or trencher and install the drain tile with P-rock on the bottom of the trench and both sides of the tile. Lay ground cloth over the tile to keep out silt and dirt from clogging up your tile. You can install new Top Soil over the trenches and re-seed. Won't look pretty this summer but it'll dry out a wet yard and look great next yr. |

Your soil could be the problem. You may have a lot of clay under the lawn that isn't allowing the water to be absorbed. Neatly remove a square of your lawn, place it out of the way and dig a hole about 12" deep. You can tell if your in soil or clay. Then fill it back up and replace the sod. If it is clay, you can either drain the water away or dig out the clay and mix it with sand and replace it. |
