It's not luck, it's just being patient and making sure the trap is set just right!!!

I found bunches of tunnels in the front yard this morning, but only a few mounds on the edges.

I haven't had much luck in the tunnels, but with the mounds I now have number 33 !!!!!!!

Looks like lots of rain in the forecast, so I guess I'll have to let the buggers enjoy the holiday!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!!!!!!

Well hey guys!!!! Hope everyone had good holidays!!! I certainly did!!!!

I have now caught 38 moles !!! All my neighbors around me are swamped with these things, and the more I catch, it seems the more I get!!!!

I wonder if it would be worth my time to contact the county for help? However, I don't know what they could do either?!?!?!

Sounds like your doing great, besides the county????........really?? what's their number 1800 GET-MOLE, they are useless, I laugh because people awhile back in Staten Island had to call 1800 POT-HOLE to call about potholes in the roads, it was a recording and you never saw anyone come fix anything. I told you before with 38 kills you could go into business for yourself (I know your retired).... so get a young kid in the neighborhood and show him how to set the traps, then; send him off all day to work for your clientel, he works it; you get the clients; pay him and collect the profits......CHA CHING! I want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

Well, hello again!!! Hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas time and are enjoying their families together!!!!!

I have just been advised by the feed store lady that the traps I am using are called Gopher traps!!! Her and all the ol'd guys that hang out there did their best to make me feel stupid, BUT, I didn't really care what they were called as long as I got rid of them.

Since I had checked on-line previously and came up with the mole theory, MY WIFE, darling that she is, always looking out for me!!!!!, dug out the encyclopedia, and lo and behold, there was an exact picture of the critters that I have been catching!! It was titled GOPHERS (Pocket Gophers) !!!!!

SOOOOO!!!! I have now caught 41 GOPHERS!!!!!!! Hahahahahahha!!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone!! What a wonderful new year this is!!!!

I know all the excitement over starting to catch gophers, thinking they were moles, and then being shown that they are

gophers has been really fun!!!!!! (Right!!)

Well, I have caught 45 gophers, on my property alone, and several uncounted on the neighbors!

This week I was getting really frustrated, because this one was destroying my shrubs by the driveway!

No matter how hard I tried or how many times I reset the traps, it kept going under or around the traps!!!

Well, I finally learned another lesson!!!

This was actually a real life MOLE!!!!! Not a gopher!!!!

I had to practically bury the first part of the trap inside the tunnel, to keep it from tunneling under or around the trap!!!!

SOOO!!!!! The count is 45 Gophers and 1 Mole!!!!!!!!

Like I said, I'm not bored, just got lots of free time!!!! Hahahaha!!!!!

Well if he had skinned all of the one's he caught and killed; he'd have enough gopher pelts to make a mighty nice GOLF BAG by now! I just found out I got my own pest problem...Termites! I need to get some industrial strength "BORACARE" they aren't in the roof yet and the house has been sprayed inside and out and underneath the slab from drilled holes in my bathrooms. Bad thing too is no homerowner's insurance because they don't cover termites..total cost for rebuilding is on me.

OUCH!!!!!! Well, maybe if I had kept all 45 gophers alive, I could have shipped them to you!!!! They do eat bugs!!!!!!
The mole would cost extra!! And besides, I don't play golf!!
My last house was infested, but after the exterminator came, it took care of them!! However, the repairs were on me! Fortunately back then I was able to do a lot more than I am now! Good luck to you!!!

I don't have a problem with these critters but decided to do a little research on them since this has been an on going thread. I looked up Gophers and Moles and found out some very interesting facts about both critters, and some simple remedies of getting rid of them or keeping them at bay.

Moles pelts were used to make clothing. Gophers are good for the eco system. Read the threads below for even more interesting info such as, using plastic bottles to keep gophers away...
The sites about gophers seems to not agree..
Chineese restaurant: You no call here no more, me no have you gopher. Me no no it taste like chicken......

Hey!! Thanks for those sites!!! New info is always welcome! I am always learning more no matter how old I get!!!
And you are correct that some of the sites conflict on certain items.
It seems that most (not all) of the gophers here have gone visiting the neighbors!! BUT, unfortunately the moles have seemed to arrive in full force!!

AND, NO I WILL NOT EAT ANY OF THEM!!!!! SICK!!!!!! HAHAHA!!!!!

Smiley - I've put rabbits and squirrels into a large bowl filled with a 2 liter bottle of 7-up, a head of chopped garlic and 6-8 ounces of soy sauce and let it sit in the fridge for a day.  Then it gets BBQ'd.

Believe me.  You have no idea what is...or was.  It fills yer belly and makes brown trout.

Well I hunted and had rabbits with Flieshmanns whiskey as a marinate, and I made a hand warmer for my girlfriend, I dried out the pelts with alum and took it to this guys mom who sewed shirts and jackets for him, she did a great job and the hand warmer and she added rabbit fur trim to my girlfriends coat, this was way back before everyone went crazy about furs, and that New Year's we went to the city, and she wore her coat and warmer and we saw a concert with a band called "MOUNTAIN". I saw a survivor magazine written for the military, and about three pages into it was a recipe for squirrel. Rabbit didn't sound so bad and it's a dark kind of meat, but squirrel or rodent, I think I'd have to be really hungry to eat anything from the rodent family.

Well....I raised rabbits when I was younger, and I remember (I was really young) my grandmother came over for dinner and she was told it was chicken. When my little mouth told her it was rabbit, she got sick!!!! Hehehe!!!! I've eaten domestic and wild rabbits, and also hunted and eaten squirrells, BUT there is no way I would try a gopher or mole, no matter what they eat!!!! Just plain nasty, like eating a rat!!!!
My mom used to make gloves and things from the rabbit pelts after the rabbits went into the pan!!! Life was sure fun back then!!!
