hey Zipper-

Hey...I watched most of the race....not one of my favorite tracks....but always exciting anyway. Unfortunate for Ryan do have to go through that wreck....but also for Mark Martin. I've been a fan of Mark Martin for many yrs.back when he drove the Folgers and Valvoline cars, and have always waited for the yr. that he would win a championship. This yr. looked good until this race.....granted, only 187 pnts behind Johnson....but seems like an uphill battle. He's been close so many times...

I remember the comments several yrs. ago from Dale Jarrett, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and others on having that darn restrictor plate for the super speedways.....the drivers basically hate them....but its the NASCAR ruling. Their suggestions at the time was to have the cars equiped w/ V-6 eng.'s on the super speedways and be restrictor plate free. They would still be able to reach the 195 mph mark but would do a better job of keeping cars from being so bunched-up. Myself......I still thinks thats a great idea.....NASCAR needs to do something.....because whats happening out there now on the big track isn't racing, and even w/ smaller opening's in the plates.....the results have not improved!!

Just my $.02

NASCAR, IMHO, is motorsports answer to professional wrestling.

Come on Racer, everybody knows professional wrestling is REAL just like the movies and politics.

I watched most of the race, and frankly, I'm really upset with NASCAR. Changing the rules time after time, and this time, most of the drivers agree that the rule changes in this race concerning the bump drafting, were the cause of these couple of major accidents. As Newman said, on these longer tracks, the races should be shortened. It was nothing but follow the leader for most of the race. AND, JIMMY JOHNSON finished 6th because he layed back most of the race, staying clear of the guys who were racing. A great way to insure another championship huh. Knaus and Johnson- the twice caught cheater and the possom winner. What a team!

Cedar,

I'm with ya on most of what you pointed out but golly ain't it exciting to see a good old smash-n-bang....like the old time destruction dirby?

They've improved the safety construction of these cars it's unbelievable given the wreck posted above.  Can't conceive that #39 car staying together like it did.

You are a lot closer to being a big follower of NASCAR that I....no problem with that.

I heard them discussing the bump-draft some on TV during the race.  As I understand the new rule is that the drivers can't bump in the turns.  Officials must see daylight between the cars....I'm with that.

The other factor is the restricter plates and running three wide.  IMHO

If you've been watching the races, you have to know that most of the big accidents occur on the straightaways. Most drivers don't bump draft in the curves except when they have an issue to settle with a particular driver. You get what you give. Three wide? I love it! When NASCAR says that you can't pass below the yellow line, this effectively narrows the track for the drivers. It doesn't stop the three wide driving, or even 4 wide on some tracks.Get rid of the restrictor plates! I'm all for that. So they may get up to 220mph. It's the restrictor plates that bunch them up.

HEY Zip, did you see the Texas race? Jimmy Johnson found out real quick that when you have to drive in traffic, it's a lot tougher. I really liked the race between Kurt and Kyle Bush for the win. Actually, I was hoping that Kurt would win, but not the way it happened. Kyle had the lead, and because of NASCARS rule for the smaller fuel cells, he ran out of gas, and because Kurt had pitted 2 laps later than Kyle, he managed to finish the race. Another NASCAR rule that has more than once, been the deciding factor in who has won the race.
