Did anyone else get the router bit set from Handy? What did you think of the bits? I'm planning on returning mine since I assume they are of the same quality as the piece of junk drill I "won" with my lifetime membership.

I have nothing from Handy but -- were/are they free? Were they sent unsolicited? If they are free even a junky tool or assessory can come in handy sometimes.

Which router bits are you referring to? The blue, double flute or the yellow quad flutes? I have both sets, and when figuring the price per bit/ and the quality of the cuts, I found them both reasonable, and as durable as any similar priced bits I've bought from Lowe's (Skil / Bosch). I guess it is something you have to figure out if it's right for you.

I should have also mentioned I bought my raised panel/ stile/ rail bit set through HCOA as well and have used them numerous times with great results. Of course any router bit needs to be used properly, not over feeding it material, or running at the wrong speeds.

Yellow and 3 flutes. No markings to determine who/where made them. Looks similar to the sets you can get on eBay for $39 for 50 bits. Yes they were unsolicited but no they aren't free. $25 bucks for the first 5 then it looks like you get 2 bits at a time (I'm assuming for the same $25 each shipment) for 8 more shipments. Included is a "free" custom storage case worth $50. I'd like to know how many cases have been sold for $50. The only positive I can say is that return postage was included so that's how they get around you keeping unsolicited mail. Not that I'd want these. For a total of over $200 I can probably find a pretty good set of bits that I would actually use. Darn it, the one time I'm "one of the few select Club Members" and I get something I don't want.

I stand corrected, yes they are triple flute, but you get 4 bits per shipment @ 29.99 each shipment. The case is not worth $50 I can assure you, but since it is included free w/ the 2nd shipment what the heck. I'd make my own case, or at least do some improvements on the one they send. You can't buy a decent triple flute ogee bit for that price. Again, just my honest opinion. I worked 3 years in ToolWorld at Lowe's so I'm quite well aquainted with tool prices and quality. Not to mention I build custom furniture for a living, so I have plenty of hands on experience. Again, it's a decision you'll have to weigh for yourself.

This sounds like HCOA's try and buy tool sale program . I've never purchased anything, but from most of the opinions I've read on the site, I wouldn't pay the price for them. I do a lot of routing on hard woods, and experienced the results of low quality bits. Now I use Freud router bits only. Yes, they do cost a bit more, but I haven't ruined any projects because of tearout from poor quality bits. They are probably OK for the occasional user, but if you are using your router regularly, avoid cheapies. I'd send them back and tell them not to send anything else from their try and buy offers. HEY Dewey, I believe that Freud is the only Manufacturer of the quad cut router bits. They have been, and are still being made in Italy. No cheap chinese quality carbide tips,or possibly HSS bits.

All router bits "look" the same, so to speak. Cedar I did correct myself about the quad, sorry about that. But you really need to try the bits to form an honest opinion. As I said. I build custom furniture, and mostly of oak, and have no problem w/ tear out and sanding is almost not necessary. Again, to each their own, I cannot complain about quality & performance, especially at that price.
