Geez,

I started this post on the 19th. Here it is on the 30th and we've only had one night that it didn't go below zero. Right now it's -14 and still breezy. This is the longest prolonged cold 'snap' that I ever remember in the lower 48. I believe that almost every record for temperature and many of the snowfall records for this area, have been broken.

Comon' Al Gore, gets your sorry butt over here and explain 'global warming' to me one more time. Oh and bring some of your political buddies and explain why seniors on social security aren't getting any 'rebate'. But the drunken dumb shit down the road with about 5 DUI's, no job, a kid, and a live in girlfriend, is getting heating assistance, food stamps, and probably a rebate.....'splain that to me!!

Grrrrrrrrrrr! AND Brrrrrrrrrrr!!

Only -14?  That is nice weather.  Although our water bowls did freeze up in those temps.  Thankfully, as it let me fix them in reasonable comfort so that they didn't freeze up in this cold snap.

We got a few flakes of snow this morning, but just 45 miles south of us, they have 10 inches of snow and it's still coming down.  I checked the radar and it's snowing all around us.  We are in a little pocket right in the center of a huge mess.  I suppose we'll catch it eventually.

Hey GMan;

It will probably build up all around you like it does here and then it will all avalanche down on you all at once.

We were a little lucky here yesterday, everything was blowing in off the lake really hard. the most we wound up with in our complex were quite a few 3-5 foot drifts. then when the winds died down and the snow came down normal it only amounted to about an inch. Had to go into town last night and everything that blew over us landed in town, they got almost 8 inches plus hugedrifts everywhere. I will probably be able to get all 12 of my driveways and sidewalks cleared quicker than the guy down the road can get his drive cleared. guess it pays off to live on the lake sometimes, everything 1 block inland is buried.

Bob:

What the Heck did I do to P__  you off????   PLEASE, PLEASE  I'm begging you PLEASE, quite sending me all this white stuff they call SNOW. I call it a PITA. I cleared out 8" to 10" yesterday morn. at 8:00 am from mine and two neighbors driveways. By noon we had an additional 6" in the driveways. I cleared them off again. At 6:00 pm  we had another 4" in the driveways again that I cleared them all off. This morn. there is another 2" that is going nowhere for the time being. At least it's slowing down. I'm nearly out of gas and the plow trucks are still no where in sight. Can you air lift me about 5 gal. of gas???  I can't even drive down the street to get to a gas station. The neighbor a ¼ mile down the road is riding his snowmobile around. Maybe I can pay him to deliver me a can of gas.

PLEASE, PLEASE  STOP.....   Send it down to someone who needs a little moisture.

Using another thread in here somewhere, I can solve your problem Oldman.  Give Zipper your global coordinates.  Then make a couple of cracks about the only reason there is a state of Texas is that the Alamo had a back door.  Then wait for the rocket.  He'll shoot one at you and wamo, the snow will be melted away.  The bad side is that you  may be also.  LMAO.  Keep the snow up there.  Don't send it to us.

Hey you Northern types, I got a question.  When does sleet quit being sleet and turns into hail?  We got sleet the size of pencil erasers out there and it's about an inch deep.  Don't know if it's sleet or hail, but I do know hurts like H when it hits you on the head. :-O

With reading what has been going on I hope everyone settles down soon. Saturay we had winds from the north that made some hard drifts and yesterday we got winds from the south making drifts the other way. Nice though they weren't as hard.

SO STOP BLOWING  we are caught in the middle and it is making it hard to know which way to move the snow.

Come spring, when ever that will be anyone down south had better have a boat. Because you will get a lot of this snow when it finally melts. 4 inches of snow predicted for tonight and more coming a couple times later this week.

GM:

Mike, fyi... Sleet is freezing rain and accumilates on your windshield faster than the defrosters can melt it or the wiper blades can remove it. Requires periodic stops to clear from windshield and wipers. No fun.

Hail... is frozen pellets that can get up to Softball size, generally around 1/8th inch up to  ¾ inch. Hail can and has caused many Auto Dealers to sell their Hail damaged cars on their lots at a very largely reduced price because of the damage. Plays havoc on Hoods and Roofs of auto's and trucks parked in a sales lot. I'm surprised you haven't experienced this at work.

Whatever it is, right now we have snow, sleet and freezing rain. Those on the Eastern U. S. brace yourselves, it's coming your way.

Barry, hail sales aren't nearly as much fun as they used to be.  Way back when, with a $100 deductible and a $1000 total, you could sell 'em cheap and still make a killin'.  Now, with a $1000 deductible per car and no limit, you call the PDR guys, disclose repaired hail damage, and sell 'em for whatever you can get out of them.  We used to make sure we had a bunch out in the open with bad weather coming.   Now we get up in the middle of the night, fly down to the store and stuff as many as we can into the shop to protect them.

BTW, that was about the biggest sleet I'd ever seen.  We had rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow and hail yesterday all in about a 4 hour period.  Also lots of thunder and lightning.

Hey Mike,

Refer to my Feb 2. post where I told you to "keep your head down" LOL....

While not a weather type, I've hear that hail actually flops around in the atmosphere going up and down with air currents, building in size all the while. When they finally come down they can get to gigantic proportions.

Sleet on the other hand, is just rain from an overrunning warm front that freezes as it hits colder objects.....cars, buildings, ground etc.

We STILL haven't had a night where it didn't get below zero. When I went to bed last night it was -8. Got up for a potty stop about 4 hours later...it was -2!

When I got up, it was ++++++5!!! Then it started snowing and two+ inches later. That's supposed to be the norm for the whole week. Hell, spring is only about five weeks away, that freekin' groundhog lied again!!

I went to the grocery store at noon and the produce manager was in the process of setting up a display of seed potatoes and onion sets.  Spring's a gettin' closer.

Bob N.:

If it's getting warmer each time you go back to bed, then you need to stay in bed for a couple of days to raise the temps outside. LOL

Ed:

You really know how to "burn a guy" with your shirt sleeve temps. as I pull my Woolie underwear on then reach for my sub-zero clothing so I can go blow snow back at Bob from N. across the big pond.

You are a rascal. Go ahead and rub it in. May you get a sunburn were the Sun don't Shine. LOL

Well, just got back to Rainy Georgia for a little R&R.

Bob N. - I figured it out. Everyone is blaming me, when it's really Bart's fault. I tried to get the warm weather up there to you, and by time I got there..... -47* in Minnesota. Where the heck did that come from? Yup, NORTH of the border.

Oldman,

After all those years of therapy I still have a hard time surpressing that mean streak as it just show's it's ugly head at times. LOL Any way  you may be able to get some revenge come late July and August when the temp here is above 100* and the humidity is about the same.

27 above at 6 this morning with northeast wind and light snow. By noon it is supposed to be 8 or less with stronger wind. Seems like things are turned around here also.

Just wait a while and it will change again.

Glad NE wind because the grove blocks it on the place. Too bad can't stay on the place.

This is just plain NOT FUNNY any longer!!

We were supposed to get 2-4" today. Ended up snowing for over 8 hours straight. We ended up somewhere around 12". If you look at the picture way near the beginning of this post, my yard now has twice as much snow as is in that picture!!

I have two bird baths in the yard. They stand about 30" tall or so. The snow is up to the water tray. That's not a drift or blowing snow from the snowblower....that's snow that fell straight down. And to make matters worse, I'm running out of room to put the snow from the drive. I can't push it with my ATV because there is a layer of ice about 5" up from the bottom. Can't snowblow through it, to hard on the machine.

You guys down south.....good for you. I hope your weather continues to be nice. This is truely an unusual year for us. Record cold and snow fall. They started dropping the lake(s) level a week early because of all the snow up north of me. Once that starts to melt, the lakes will fill back up. The ice fishing types are talking about the ice cracking and the pressure ridges starting to form. Oh no, you're not getting me out on that ice!! They generally drop the two lakes about 3.5-4'. It could be more this year.  The thought of being out on ice that is dropping 4' is way to much for me. I don't care that it is between 15 and 20 inches thick....that aint enough for me!! LOL

And to make matters worse (if that's possible) it's supposed to go down to -5 to-10 tonight and have a high of +5 tomorrow. Geez, it's the middle of february. Normal highs are approaching 30 degrees! We aren't any where near that!
