Gary   Obviously this music topic s very popular but I keep opening "Workshop" hoping to find something relevant to "Workshop" and it's becoming a drag.

What a great question!!!!  The only time that I play music in my shop is when I am in my shop.  I listen to music the entire time, if I need more than the normal amount of concentration, I may turn the volume down, but I don't turn it off.  I prefer classic rock, but only because I am a classic rock fan.  Play the music you like best and let the creativity flow.

I enjoy listening to classical music playing on my shop radio. Even though it is always playing, sometimes I can't hear a sound. Being all ear plugged up and all. But, I still find classical relaxing.

Out in the garage it is classic rock but downstares in the wood shop I do not have a radio/sterio.  Between the power tools and shopvac it would be drowned out.

I generally have a classic rock station on. Don't pay it much attention, but it provides background noise I suppose!

I agree, classic rock gets me going, but I too, sometimes like the classical music playing when I'm in a somber mood and need to calm down. That's when I "work my station", be it with my paints, or wood. lol.

As far as workshop music goes , a little boom box is good enough for me becuase if I start listening seriously to a song that has caught my ear then I may catch my fingers or whatever !  I am serious about my rock music , however. The last concert I went to was free starring Tower of Power and they required everyone to stand up and dance thru the whole concert - I couldn't move the next day ! (But I could that night !!!!!)  Also, to you techno guys that have your good old "sides" moved to IPOD - Are you getting all the dynamic range , headroom , stereo separation , frequency response ,etc that you would straight off the album thru your stereo system ? Also, just to brag a little , in the early days I worked across the street from The Fillmore West in S.F. so I heard ALOT of music during those years in the late 60's and early 70's. To wrap it up , I am considering laying cable from my "system" to the garage for some better speakers , just haven't decided wheather to deal with the hassle or not. I have had fun reading all your messages , you guys have a lot of savvy !

I like to listen to classic rock.  60's and 70's.  Helps me to concentrate.

Mostly Blues (Sirius Blues 74 before they changed it to XM's Blues station) Southern Gospel, Contemorary Christian ( yea I know, that's kind of a contradiction) If I'm doing tedious work I like more laid back Jazz
